Dearly beloved,
This week’s worship theme is “discipleship”. In working through this week’s Gospel reading (Matthew 28:16-20), I found that the word “disciple” is less of a noun and more of a verb. I got to thinking about what verbs inhabit our understandings of a lived faith. More certainly – love, grace, peace, hope, mercy – what else would you add? These words are often used as nouns, as things, rather than as verbs, as actions. To disciple-ize, we are called to live out our faith everyday
One of my favorite things from my youth is Schoolhouse Rock. I can still sing many of the songs that helped me to know about conjunctions, how a bill becomes a law, interjections and the like. It helped to teach about verbs and how they can energize nouns into verbs. (Schoolhouse Rock – Verb)
Schoolhouse Rock – Verb
Let us live a verb faith – active, energized by the Spirit, and sent our by Jesus
peace, Pastor Jen
