Dearly beloved,
Wrestling is not one of those sports that I tend to watch (football is my sport of choice – Go Bills!). Yet, I have often found myself wrestling over the years – it seems to happen most often at night, accompanied by worries and imagined scenarios.
This week, we hear the story of Jacob wrestling with an unknown man (an angel? God? – doesn’t really say) He came out of the womb trying to wrestle his way into the world ahead of his twin. He struggled with his father in law, Laban. He spent many years trying to control his future amidst his own needs.
Yet, this night of wrestling changed him in ways that affected him for the rest of his life – from an injury to his hip, a new name given by God and a new perspective on what lay before him
We are invited to wrestle with God, to be in those conversations with Jesus that offer us hope, grace and love. We wrestle in prayer, in reflection on scripture, in conversation with one another – God meets us in these places as well as in unexpected ways.
Join us on Sunday as we wrestle in faith!
May God’s peace be with you always!
Peace in Christ,
Pastor Jen
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
