Dearly beloved,
Here is a letter from Wycliffe Associates thanking us for the stamp donations we make:
Dear Trinity Lutheran Friends,
Thank you for the large shopping bag of stamps that Ralph delivered to us. We will take them to Florida during our trip in November. I hope that we receive more before our trip. We need work to keep us snowbirds busy cutting, sorting and selling stamps! All funds go toward Bible translation efforts.
Last year the funds were used toward helping complete New Testaments by printing them and celebrating with the churches when they were distributed. The local “churches” do the work of Bible translation with programs, computers and guidance from WA. The churches do the checking of the translation. The national translators are local people who do the work in addition to their family and work responsibilities. The churches are usually small and need the financial help to complete their work.
This month a special event will be held in Brazil for helping illiterate deaf read the SUN scriptures. Most events have been held in diverse African countries. Our volunteers have been producing study aids so that after the event, the students can continue to learn to read more and more. Some aids are like flash cards with symbols and a dictionary of all the symbols. The deaf churches continue with helping their illiterate members be part of the community.
Thanks & Blessings,
Dianne Archer
NOTE: The SUN language is made up of 90 core symbols. Extensions and combinations of these symbols now number well over 3,000 and represent all the words in scripture. SUN kits include a dictionary which contains these symbols. The Old and New Testaments have been translated into SUN.
Peace in Christ,
