Dearly beloved,
This week’s Wisdom reading is from the book of Ecclesiastes with its most familiar “time” passages. It immediately brought to mind “Turn! Turn! Turn!” made popular by The Byrds and written by Pete Seeger. This song consists of all 8 verses of Ecc. 3.
Even as this song got stuck in my head, I began to reflect on how we might add to this listing of times in our lives:
A time to text/post, a time to refrain from texting/posting
A time to drive and a time to walk
A time to take care of myself, a time to take care of others
A time to cheer and a time to refrain from cheering
A time to worship in person and a time to worship online
(what other ones might you add)
Often, we see these are one or the other; even sometimes as one is better than the other. And yet, they are not either/or propositions but rather commentary about all the different moments that we encounter in our lives. As the song states “a time for every purpose under heaven”.
And even more importantly, God is with us in the midst of all these times. God does abandon us to our own devices, but rather we encounter God as we experiences all of these times and more.
And so, join us in worship as we draw near to God and the ways in which Christ meets us where we are
peace in Christ,
Pastor Jen
