Dearly Beloved,

I was blessed this week by a visit from Rev. Michael Plekon who served as one of the pastors of Trinity a number of years ago. He further blessed us/me with the gift of his most recent book, “Community as Church, Church as Community”. I have only just begun it, but it has renewed my thinking about what it means to be the Church, specifically Trinity in Brewster, as we live, work and play within the surrounding community. We are more than just a place on the map. We are God’s people who are called to be the Church in this time and place.

Pastor Plekon, in the first chapter, writes: “While church is many things— and community, likewise, includes a great deal— church is essentially the communal experience of God and each other and the area. Church is the household or family of faith: those who are the people of God. And then, the communication and actions of God and God’s people.

We are a people gathered to be fed and nourished by the Word of God that are then called to be sent out to offer this nourishing Word to the community around us – where we work, live, and play. We are equipped in the church community to faith-fully to live in the wider community.

We hear this as part of this coming Sunday’s scripture from Ephesians when it says “I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.” (Ephesians 4:1-3, The Message translation)

How is God calling us and you to work with and among the community?
What do you need to be equipped to bring God’s message of love and grace out into the world?

Join us for worship as we seek the loving and grace-filled will of Christ who sends us forth into the world

peace in Christ,

Pastor Jen

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
